Introduction – Ladakh

Ladakh, is name that rings more than a few bells in a biker’s heart. Anybody who rides a motorcycle, dreams of riding in to Ladakh and that is why it’s known as “mecca of bikers”. And it’s not just the bikers but also the photographers who are equally attracted to Ladakh due to the grand vistas and a variety of quickly changing landscapes on offer.

Ladakh, by geographical definition is cold, arid desert situated high up in Himalayan and Karakoram ranges of mountains. Where it offers sand dunes in Nubra Valley, there are some high altitude lakes like Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri as well. Even though Ladakh is dominated by Buddhist culture which is evident by presence of so many monasteries, it is also the home to few villages of Aryan race like Dha and Hanu.

A motorcycle ride to Ladakh is considered to be one of the most challenging adventure ride a biker can do, owing to factors like extreme and volatile weather conditions, tough road conditions and many high altitude passes encountered during the journey like Rohtang Pass, Baralach La, Zoji La, NakeeLa, Khardung La (world’s highest motorable road), Tanglang La and Chang La.

Prominent places to visit in Ladakh – Leh (main city and also the base to explore Ladakh region), Nubra Valley (includes Khardung La, Diskit, Hunder, Turtuk, Sumur and Panamik), Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri.

Ride Description – Basic Route

We’ll start our journey from Delhi, the capital of India and ride to beautiful valleys of Kullu and Manali via Chandigarh and hill towns of Bilaspur and Mandi. We’ll scale the Rohtang Pass and then head to Leh through Keylong, Jispa, Sarchu, Pang and Upshi.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi – Ambala – Chandigarh – Ropar – Swarghat – Bilaspur

We’ll cover a distance of 380kms and the ride time will be approx. 8hrs. Overnight stay will be at hill town of Bilaspur.
Day 2

Bilaspur – Sundernagar – Mandi – Kullu – Manali

Riding along the meandering Beas river, we’ll ride for 6hrs. covering 180kms. Night stay will be at the riverside town Manali from where we’ll start the tough journey ahead.
Day 03

Manali – Rohtang Pass – Keylong – Jispa

We’ll scale the treacherous Rohtang Pass and then descend towards Keylong to stop overnight at Jispa, a quaint li’l Himalayan hamlet along the Bhaga river. Distance covered – 150kms, ride time – 7hrs.
Day 04

Jispa – Baralach La – Sarchu – Pang – Morey Plains – Tanglang La – Upshi – Karu – Leh

As this one is going to be a long day, we’ll start the journey early. First up to cross will be the Baralacha La and then the Sarchu flats. We’ll also encounter the famous 21 Gata Loops and then the Morey Plains. Tanglang La, the 2nd Highest Motorable Road will be the final frontier before we enter the Indus Valley and reach Leh. Distance covered – 330kms, ride time – 13hrs
Day 05

Leh – bike check-up, rest and local sightseeing.

Once we reach Leh, you enjoy the busy, traveller-friendly yet so enchanting city of Leh surrounded by the mountains. There are lot of places in and around Leh to visit like Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda), Leh Palace, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, Indus-Zanskar Confluence, Hall of Fame and various other monasteries and palaces like Shey Palace, Spituk Gompa (Monastery), Hemis Gompa, Thiksey Gompa, Likir Gompa and more. You enjoy the city of Leh on foot during the day while your rides get checked, serviced and repaired by our efficient crew.
Day 06

Leh – Khardung La – Diskit – Hunder

On this day, we’ll head towards Nubra Valley and cross Khardung La, renowned in world as the Highest Motorable Road. We’ll end the day the Hunder, a fairly large village on the banks of river Shyok. Hunder is known for its sand dunes and the double humped camels, while we’ll visit the Diskit Monastery and Buddha Statue in Diskit on the way. Distance – 150kms, ride time – 7hrs.
Day 07

Hunder - Turtuk - Hunder

We'll start from Hunder to visit Turtuk, the largest and one of the oldest village in Nubra Valley that gives insight to the Balti culture. Apart from the culture, ride is going to be no less enthralling giving you the views that will be etched in to your memories forever. Distance covered will be 170kms that will take around 8hrs.
Day 08

Hunder - Leh

Ride back from Hunder to Leh at leisurely pace noticing the change in landscape. Once back to Leh, there are places that can be visited in the afternoon, like Hall of Fame and Leh Palace.
Day 09

Leh - Karu - Chang La - Pangong Tso

We'll start the ride from Leh to Pangong and will cross the mighty Chang La along the way. Pangong Tso (lake) is one of the high altitudes lakes of India at a staggering altitude of 4350 Meters or 14270 Feet Stay at Pangong will be in tented accommodations, which are operational only during the summers. Pangong Lake itself offers the sight of changing colors at different time of the day and with different weather conditions. Distance - 160kms, ride time-6hrs.
Day 10

Pangong Tso - Leh

Ride back to Leh and visit Shey Palace during the return journey.
Day 11

Leh - Karu - Upshi - Chumathang - Mahe - Sumdo - Korzok (Tso Moriri)

Tso Moriri in Changthang region of Ladakh is one of the most beautiful, calm and sacred (for ladakhis) high altitude lakes in India. In fact, it is the largest high altitude lake in India that is entirely in Indian Territory. As it is a part of the wetland reserve, it is actual known as Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve and one cannot pitch their tents or construct anything near the lake. This region also offers a wide variety of flora and fauna. Tso Moriri lake is located about 250kms from Leh and is one of the high altitudes lakes of India at a staggering altitude of 4595 Meters or 15075 Feet, yes higher than Pangong Tso. Ride time - 8hrs.
Day 12

Korzok (Tso Moriri) - Sumdo - Tso Kar - Debring - Pang - Sarchu - Baralacha La - Jispa

This too, is going to be a long day. We will start our return journey towards Manali. During the journey, we will also see the Tso Kar. Tso Kar is another high altitude lake that is famous for the spotting of elusive Black Necked Crane, a highly endangered species for which Changthang region is its breeding ground. We'll join the Manali-Leh Highway at Debring, by-passing the Tanglang La and will end the long tiring day at Jispa. Distance 310kms, ride time-13hrs.
Day 13

Jispa - Keylong - Rohtang Pass - Manali

During the return journey, riders who wish to do snow scooter ride, paragliding and other leisure activities and do so depending on the availability, at their own risk and expenses. Distance-150kms, ride time 7-8hrs.
Day 14

Manali - Kullu - Mandi - Sundernagar - Bilaspur

Ride from Manali to Bilaspur is a relaxed one and hence the willing group members can do river rafting at their own expenses, but obvious. Distance -180kms, ride time 6-7hrs.
Day 15

Bilaspur - Delhi

Ride back to Delhi. Distance - 380kms, ride time - 8hrs.

Term & Conditions

  • All the participating riders must hold a valid driving license or International Driving Permit (IDP)
  • All the participating riders must have a valid Indian visa
  • Check-In / Check-out time at all the properties would at 1200 hrs (Noon)
  • No Refund or Compensation for any unused services or transport in any kind of circumstance.
  • Planned Voyage (Tour Organisers) holds no responsibility for road blocks or flight cancelled or Any unforeseen situation that can happen on tour due to natural phenomenon.
  • We shall not be responsible for any change in the itinerary due to landslides, flight cancellations, weather conditions or any unforeseen circumstances. The additional cost incurred will be in addition to the cost
  • Maximum luggage allowed will be 10kgs per person. Additional luggage will be allowed at supplement cost of Rs1000 per kg
